Abstract Interpretatief onderzoek in management accounting probeert zicht te krijgen op hoe accounting, prestatiemeting en control vorm krijgen via interacties in een relationeel netwerk en hoe die vorm vervolgens acteert als een speler in een netwerk. Het wijkt af van het ‘mainstream’-onderzoek omdat het de veronderstelling van individuele rationele besluitvorming en gerichte en voorspelbare beheersing loslaat. Interpretatief onderzoek heeft eerder conceptuele dan instrumentele relevantie voor practici. Het richt zich op kennisproductie over de totstandkoming en werking van accounting en control en is verbonden met ‘framing’, ofwel met het objectiveren in sociaal-organisatorische situaties.
