Vanaf het ontstaan van het beroep in Nederland is deze relatie tussen onafhankelijkheid en het bestaansrecht van het accountantsberoep door met name Limperg ver-woord: ‘the auditor derives his general function in society from the need for expert and independent examination, and the need for an expert and independent opinion based on that examination’.
